Josh is a Multiply Champion - Could you be one too?
People who work or volunteer in Dorset, who are confident with numeracy and would like to help others become number confident, can join Josh Bethell in becoming a Multiply Numeracy Champion.
Dad-of-one Josh, 35, is from Bournemouth and has been a Support Worker with BCP Council for two years.
He said: “I am part of a team which supports adults with learning disabilities to live as independently as possible in their own homes.
“I received a course guide from Skills & Learning, which runs Multiply numeracy courses in the post, and saw some courses I thought might benefit the people I support and possibly our staff team.
“When I looked at the website, I saw the advert for Multiply Champions and signed up for the next available training session I could attend.”
Numeracy champions don’t need to be maths experts, just confident in their own basic numeracy skills and happy to help others.
And it’s not a big commitment – just help when and where you can. This may be at work, supporting colleagues with low numeracy skills and confidence. Or you may have a role working with clients or service-users who need help with numbers.
Josh continued: “Myself and my colleagues help many of the people we support with their day-to-day spending, weekly shopping etc. We also help them plan for activities and appointments.
“If I can help my colleagues become more confident with their numeracy, we can support people to a higher standard.
“We may also be able to improve some people’s understanding of their finances, timekeeping, and scheduling, increasing their independence.
“I’m really looking forward to seeing what I can achieve as a Multiply Numeracy Champion.”
