Learner Successfully Gets a Job After Studying Employability Course

We are proud to see learner Fatiha has successfully secured a job after studying on our Pathways employability course with Skills & Learning!

Fatiha came along to our open day in the Dolphin Centre, Poole, where we opened the newly built Poole Adult Learning Centre. Here we showcased the many learning opportunities we offer, including employability and careers services.

Fatiha, aged 20, experiences anxiety and explained how difficult it can be to enter the job market, especially alongside other commitments such as education. She enrolled on the course to receive some support and prepare herself for employment. She has work experience and hopes to one day start a business offering Henna.

Tutor Janet and Learning Support Assistant Alison supported 7 learners on this course to develop their CV, interview skills, confidence and job searching skills. They studied for 7 weeks.

During the course, Fatiha simplified her CV from 3 pages to 1 in order to be more concise and optimized for job applications. The group also did interview skill training and worked with the tutor to have 1-1 practice interviews to help their confidence grow.

After the course, Fatiha independently searched for jobs online, and applied to a Sales Advisor role at H&M Poole through video application. She was then invited for a group interview after and was offered the job!

Fatiha said that “without the course I wouldn’t have had the skills for the interview”. Applying “felt like the biggest thing I had done, and now it’s the best thing I have done”.

We discussed how hard it can be to enter employment, and Fatiha said “even if you are young, and it seems daunting, you should go for it”, “you shouldn’t be embarrassed, learning definitely helps!~

Employability and Progression Officer Nicky said: “my congratulations to Fatiha, she attended every single session of the Pathways course, so her hard work has obviously paid off”

We are so proud of Fatiha for her work on this course and her new role!

Our employability courses are run across Dorset and we aim to help learners tackle barriers in the workplace such as age, health and skills. We offer workshops, courses and free online or telephone appointments to give advice and offer support. We also work with JobCentre Plus and other local organisations to help adults access courses.
