Multiply Is Helping Joe To Maximise His Future Career Prospects
Joe, 37, is learning with us on a six-week Multiply course with Skills & Learning at The Dolphin Centre in Poole. Joe, who is a single dad, struggled at school.
Now he’s amongst dozens of people across the county who have already signed up for new Multiply courses, aimed at improving numeracy, money skills and life chances.
Here, he tells how his learning is boosting his career and wellbeing.
“I struggled with reading and writing at school and left at 16. I’ve worked all over the country for the last 20 years, bouncing around, doing labouring with building companies, dry lining and most recently cladding. But I want to move into warehousing to increase my chances of earning more money and having more responsibility, so I need to improve my maths and English.
“I’ve done an English course with Skills & Learning in Poole, which was great. Then I woke up one morning and realised I had to get myself together and really sort my life out. I heard about the Multiply course and signed up for a Level 2 maths course on Fridays at Poole Adult Learning Centre – and I haven’t looked back.”
Emma Wegman is a Family Learning Tutor with Skills & Learning and Joe’s Multiply tutor. She said: “Joe is so keen to progress and improve his skills and is doing really well developing his maths skills. He has also been a great support to other learners in the class and I am confident he has a much brighter future ahead.”
Joe added: “No-one has ever believed in me before like my tutors Emma and Isa and my careers advisor Helen. Emma is a great teacher and everyone is so patient. The other people in my class are all at a similar level and really friendly too. I hope to start applying for warehouse positions as soon as I finish the course.
“I’ve also got a lot of satisfaction from encouraging the other people on my course and now I want to tell other people about it, so that maybe someone else like me will be inspired to do something to better their life.”
