This relaxing and restorative AgeWell course will help improve your general health and fitness with a yoga class that you can do seated in a chair. This course is for those who are 60 or over with priority, in the event of limited enrolment to those that live alone.

What the course is about

During this course you will receive both group and individual support from an experienced and qualified British Wheel of Yoga (BWY) tutor who will provide guidance and advice as you explore and learn the therapeutic moves in chair yoga.

Yoga is all about bringing the body, mind, breath and heart together.

You will:

  • Learn what your body needs and how it wants to move
  • Do what feels good and rest when you need to
  • Helps us develop awareness over our thinking so we can become less negative
  • No religious content (secular class)

The tutor will guide you when and how to move, when to hold the posture and how to use the breath to support your practice. You will learn to cultivate listening to your body and learn when to bring in more effort and when to rest.

The classes will mainly involve staying seated and you may be invited to do a short standing practice with your chair for balance if needed. All exercises are invitational, and you will be encouraged to listen to your body and what it needs. The class will end with a deep relaxation practice which helps restore the body and allow the work you have done to really sink in and benefit you. Questions are encouraged!

Learning takes place in a friendly classroom setting, which is a great place for social interaction and helping you meet new people.

This course is subsidised by government funding so you should aim to attend the whole course.
