AgeWell: Exploring Dance and Movement
This marvellous AgeWell course will help you to improve health, fitness and mobility with a gentle introduction to dance and movement in a friendly and supportive setting.
What the course is about
Dance and movement are a fantastic way for you to express yourself whilst staying fit and healthy.
During this course you will be introduced to the basic principles of dance and movement exploring different genres as the course progresses.
You will be taken through a warmup and stretching movements, on to gentle exercise with a variety of tempos and a final warm down. You will be encouraged to move at your own pace and consideration will be made of those who need to use a chair. The music used will be representative of many genres and will suit the activity being undertaken. Although the emphasis is on gentle introduction, this is a physical activity, and you should be realistic about your own fitness at the start of the course. Don’t overdo it! If in doubt, consult your doctor.
This course offers an avenue for creative pursuits, improving your health and wellbeing.
Learning takes place in a friendly classroom setting, which is a great place for social interaction and helping you meet new people.
This course is subsidised by Government funding so you should aim to attend the whole course.

There are no pre-course information sessions or interviews in order to enrol on this course.
Assessment of progress, tests, exams
Your tutor will work with you to develop a Personal Development Plan (PDP) which will help you review your progress towards achieving your goals during the course.
There is no qualification or examination attached to this course.
Who the course is for / Previous experience, knowledge or qualifications
This course is for beginners, or for those with little experience. You must be over 60 years of age and priority will be given to those living alone.
Materials and costs
You will need to wear something comfortable, loose and stretchy. Please leave jewellery at home.
Bringing a bottle of water to keep you hydrated is recommended. During your first session your Tutor may recommend additional materials to bring.

Where learners do not attend the first session, without having given prior notice, Skills & Learning reserve the right to offer the place on the course to another learner; you will not be eligible for a refund it it is outside of the terms outlined in our cancellation policy.
Fully funded learners: if you have been offered a fully funded place on a course and no longer require it, you must advise us before the course starts so that your place can be offered to someone else. We reserve the right to withdraw future offers of fully funded places if you regularly do not start or complete funded courses.
Home study: you will be required to do significant study at home between sessions to assist with your learning and progress.
Proof of identity: please bring photographic ID and your National Insurance number with you to your first session. You will also need to provide it for any external examinations you take.
Off-site activities: with some courses, there may be the opportunity for off-site enrichment activities at additional cost, for example: gallery, museum or exhibition visits. Where this is an integral part of the course, your tutor will discuss the arrangements with you during your induction.
