As we joyfully head outside again as the weather improves and notice the new Spring flowers, it’s tempting to bring some in to brighten our homes, but how can we arrange their delicate beauty? - you will need to bring some resources.

What the course is about

During this course you will receive both group and individual support in order to help you learn more about making a flower arrangement. 


In this workshop you will use the cheerful flowers of Spring to make an individual flower arrangement. Using fresh flowers, supplemented with the twiggy new growth of Spring or the evergreen leaves that have outseen Winter, and your choice of accessories, you will watch a demonstration and then create your own interpretation of the season. 

You will need to provide some materials please see the materials section below. 

We will provide a lined basket container and other materials to support your arrangement. 

All our courses are made up of elements of speaking & listening, reading and writing, and you will work using these elements throughout the course. 

Learning takes place in a friendly classroom setting, which is a great place for social interaction and helping you meet new people. 

Please note that the classroom (Education Centre) is situated approximately 300 yards from the car park. A parking fee will apply in the car park, but learners will be eligible for a 10% discount on refreshments in The Tea Rooms in the courtyard. 

This course offers an avenue for creative pursuits, improving your health, confidence and wellbeing.? 

This course is subsidised by Government funding so you should aim to attend the whole course.

Pre-course information session or interview

There are no Pre-course admission sessions or interviews in order to enrol on this course.

Assessment of progress, tests, exams

The workshop is structured in a way that gives you the opportunity to look at some different techniques enhanced with some tricks of the trade.

 

Your tutor will work with you to develop your skills and review your progress at the end of the session.? 

Photographs will be taken to document the process and may be used for Social Media purposes. You may opt out of this if you wish, or photos can be taken of the arrangement only. 

There is no qualification or examination attached to this course.

Who the course is for / Previous experience, knowledge or qualifications

This is a workshop, and anyone is welcome to join and learn basic skills in the subject. 


This course is ideal for anyone with or without experience of flower arranging, and who would like to explore how to use their creative skills for a decoration in a friendly and supportive group setting

Materials and costs

This is a one-off workshop. Tools will be available to use during the workshop, but if you have your own and wish to use them, please bring them along (clearly labelled). This is at your own risk.?? 


Some materials will be provided, but you will need to bring your own selection of the following: 

A selection of flowers, such as daffodils, tulips or hyacinths or early flowering shrubs like Forsythia or Camellia 

Some twiggy foliage or some evergreen foliage

Accessories that mean Spring to you, such as decorative eggs, rabbits, chicks, birds, ribbons or any kind of natural ingredient

You will find it useful to bring a notebook and pen.??

If you wish to take your design home with you, please bring a suitable container.??Please note that the classroom (Education Centre) is situated approximately 300 yards from the car park.

You should not wear open toed shoes in the classroom, for your own safety.? You may wear an apron to protect your clothing. If you suffer from known allergies to flowers or foliage, we advise you to bring protective gloves.??

Places on courses: some of our courses will be in high demand and if you have been offered a place but no longer require it, please advise us immediately as you may be preventing another learner from the taking the place. Where learners do not attend the first session, without having given prior notice, Skills & Learning reserve the right to offer the place on the course to another learner and you will not be eligible to a refund it its outside of the terms outlined in our cancellation policy.


Fully funded learners: if you have been offered a fully funded place on a course and no longer require it, you must advise us before the course starts so that your place can be offered to someone else. We reserve the right to withdraw future offers of fully funded places if you regularly do not start or complete funded courses.


Home study: you may be required to do some study at home between sessions to assist with your learning and progress.


Qualification Levels: there is further information about qualification levels on our website. Some courses will have learners of different levels being taught in the same class with differentiated learning materials and activities appropriate to the qualification level.


Proof of identity: please bring photographic ID and your National Insurance number with you to your first session. You will also need to provide it for any external examinations you take.


Off-site activities: with some courses, there may be the opportunity for off-site enrichment activities at additional cost, for example: gallery, museum or exhibition visits. Where this is an integral part of the course, your tutor will discuss the arrangements with you during your induction.
