Bitesize Silver Clay Jewellery Beginners: Step 2

During this bitesize course you will receive both group and individual support to experiment with PMC, silver clay, as a medium.  You will learn the elements of design and with support and guidance make a piece of unique and delightful jewellery.  The perfect gift for a loved one or yourself. 

Art Clay Silver is a precious metal clay which looks and feels like ordinary sculpting or porcelain clay, with fine particles of pure silver mixed with a non-toxic organic binder. When fired the binder burns out leaving a fine silver piece, which can be hallmarked as fine silver. 

All our courses are made up of elements of speaking & listening, reading and writing, and you will work using these elements throughout the course. 

Some of the skills you gain on this course could help increase your opportunities for employment or working within the community.  Learning takes place in a friendly classroom setting, which is a great place for social interaction and helping you meet new people. 

Practice at home and completion of homework is advisable to enhance your learning experience. 

This course is subsidised by Government funding so you should aim to attend the whole course.  

There are no Pre-course admission sessions or interviews in order to enrol on this course. 

Please ensure you have read and understood our STEPS guidance in order to accurately enrol upon the correct level course for you. 

Your tutor will work with you to develop a Personal Development Plan (PDP) which will help you review your progress towards achieving your goals during the course.   

There is no qualification or examination attached to this course. 

This is a beginner's step 2 course, and you may have completed the step 1 course or be expected to have some experience or basic knowledge in the subject. 

All materials and tools will be provided for you.  You may wish to purchase additional materials to enhance your designs. It is suggested that you discuss with your tutor before buying any expensive materials or equipment for this course.

Other resources will be supplied for your use for the duration of the course and will be returnable at the end. You will take home with you at least one piece of jewellery.

You should not wear open-toed shoes in the classroom for your own safety.  You may wear an apron to protect your clothing.  Long hair must be tied back.

Attendance: before enrolling you should ensure that you can attend all classes offered as far as possible.

Places on courses: many of our courses are in high demand. If you have been offered a place but no longer require it, please advise us immediately as you may be preventing another learner from taking the place. Where learners do not attend the first session, without having given prior notice, Skills & Learning reserve the right to offer the place on the course to another learner; you will not be eligible for a refund it it is outside of the terms outlined in our cancellation policy.

Fully funded learners: if you have been offered a fully funded place on a course and no longer require it, you must advise us before the course starts so that your place can be offered to someone else. We reserve the right to withdraw future offers of fully funded places if you regularly do not start or complete funded courses.

Home study: you will be required to do significant study at home between sessions to assist with your learning and progress.

Proof of identity: please bring photographic ID and your National Insurance number with you to your first session. You will also need to provide it for any external examinations you take.

Off-site activities: with some courses, there may be the opportunity for off-site enrichment activities at additional cost, for example: gallery, museum or exhibition visits. Where this is an integral part of the course, your tutor will discuss the arrangements with you during your induction.
