Botanical Painting
This course will help you to recreate beautiful pictures of plants and flowers in a supportive and friendly setting.
What the course is about
Workshops will explore:
- How to draw plants correctly showing shape and form
- How to view light and shade and translate that to your own work
- How to use pencils and charcoal to make line, shape and tone
- How to use paint to bring your pictures to life.
The work is detailed and exacting and should produce very realistic results. You will experiment with a variety of media. These sessions offer an avenue for creative pursuits, improving your health and well-being. The friendly classroom environment is a great place for social interaction and helping you meet new people. Practice at home is advisable to enhance your learning experience. This course is subsidised by Government funding so you should aim to attend the whole course.

Assessment of progress, tests, exams
Your tutor will work with you to develop an Individual Learning Plan and review your progress against this throughout the length of the course. There is no qualification or examination attached to this course.
Who the course is for / Previous experience, knowledge or qualifications
This course is for beginners and those who would like to refresh their skills.
Materials and costs
You will need a notebook and pen. You should also bring any relevant art materials that you have available to the first session, but before buying expensive materials and equipment please discuss their purchase with your tutor. You will be expected to purchase your own materials as the course progresses. You are advised to wear old clothes or an overall to protect your clothes.

Fully funded learners: if you have been offered a fully funded place on a course and no longer require it, you must advise us before the course starts so that your place can be offered to someone else. We reserve the right to withdraw future offers of fully funded places if you regularly do not start or complete funded courses.
Home study: you will be required to do significant study at home between sessions to assist with your learning and progress.
Proof of identity: please bring photographic ID and your National Insurance number with you to your first session. You will also need to provide it for any external examinations you take.
Off-site activities: with some courses, there may be the opportunity for off-site enrichment activities at additional cost, for example: gallery, museum or exhibition visits. Where this is an integral part of the course, your tutor will discuss the arrangements with you during your induction.
