LivingWell courses are subsidised workshops that aim to support wellbeing in addition to teaching a skill, in this class you will learn the basics of crocheting in a fun and supportive setting.

What the course is about

During this course you will be introduced to basic crochet stitches and will create a small crochet project for you to enjoy, you will receive both group and individual support in order to help you learn more about crochet.



Through this course you will discover the mindful elements of crocheting and how these activities can support us in a more holistic way. Topics that may be covered include:




  • Basic crochet stitches

  • Getting started on a project

  • Reading crochet instructions



The course is participative and includes information giving, demonstration, discussion and working together. You will need to be prepared to take an active part in the sessions and to challenge some of your thoughts and beliefs.



All our courses are made up of elements of speaking & listening, reading and writing, and you will work using these elements throughout the course.



Learning takes place in a friendly classroom setting, which is a great place for social interaction and helping you meet new people.



Practice at home and completion of homework is advisable to enhance your learning experience.



This course is subsidised by Government funding so you should aim to attend the whole course.

Pre-course information session or interview

There are no Pre-course admission sessions or interviews in order to enrol on this course.

Assessment of progress, tests, exams

Your tutor will work with you to develop an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) which will help you review your progress towards achieving your goals during the course.



There is no qualification or examination attached to this course.

Who the course is for / Previous experience, knowledge or qualifications

This is a Beginners course, and you will be expected to have no experience in the subject or very basic knowledge of the subject. This course could be helpful for people who are experiencing low mood, anxiety and/or stress.

Materials and costs

For this class, you will need some thread or yarn in your chosen colours.  One ball of yarn is enough to get started.  You can find yarn in charity shops or some local shops, such as wilko or the range.



You will also need a crochet hook.



You may also need embroidery scissors, and a tape measure.



You will also need to bring along a notepad and pen/pencil.

Fully funded learners: if you have been offered a fully funded place on a course and no longer require it, you must advise us before the course starts so that your place can be offered to someone else. We reserve the right to withdraw future offers of fully funded places if you regularly do not start or complete funded courses.

Home study: you may be required to do some study at home between sessions to assist with your learning and progress.

Qualification Levels: there is further information about qualification levels on our website. Some courses will have learners of different levels being taught in the same class with differentiated learning materials and activities appropriate to the qualification level.

Proof of identity: please bring photographic ID and your National Insurance number with you to your first session. You will also need to provide it for any external examinations you take.

Off-site activities: with some courses, there may be the opportunity for off-site enrichment activities at additional cost, for example: gallery, museum or exhibition visits. Where this is an integral part of the course, your tutor will discuss the arrangements with you during your induction.
