Our Digital Hub is a course you can join on any date and is specifically designed for those who want to learn basic computer skills at their own pace.

What the course is about

The Digital Hub uses a hybrid model of some pre-recorded material, remote delivery alongside hands on support from an on-site Learning Support Assistant who will guide you to use a computer with safety and success. You will be able to start the course on a date that suits you and work at your own pace with your own goal in mind. Tell us what you want to learn, and we will help. The Digital Hub embeds "Learn My way" material to develop your knowledge and skills when using a computer.



Subjects covered:




  • Using a computer - keyboard and mouse

  • Online Basics - the internet, emails and online forms

  • Office programmes - creating documents, spreadsheets and presentations

  • Online safety - personal data and being safe online

  • Online shopping and social media

  • Finding a job online - job hunting, National Careers Service website, Jobs and interviews

  • Improving your Heath online - NHS website, GP services online

  • Managing your money online - online and mobile banking, make money work

  • Public services online - using public services, Universal Credit



Learning takes place in a friendly library or similar setting, which is a great place for social interaction and helping you meet new people.



Practice at home and completion of homework is advisable to enhance your learning experience.



This course is subsidised by Government funding so you should aim to attend the whole course.

Pre-course information session or interview

There are no Pre-course admission sessions or interviews in order to enrol on this course.

Assessment of progress, tests, exams

Your tutor will work with you to develop a Personal Development Plan (PDP) which will help you review your progress towards achieving your goals during the course. 



There is no qualification or examination attached to this course.

Who the course is for / Previous experience, knowledge or qualifications

This is a Beginners course, for those who have no experience in the subject or very basic knowledge of the subject.

Materials and costs

You will need a notebook and pen. 



It would be useful for you to have access to a computer so you can practise what you learn in each session. Alternatively, you can book computer time for free in any of the local libraries.

Once you have completed the modules other courses at the next level will be offered by Skills & Learning or other local providers.

Where learners do not attend the first session, without having given prior notice, Skills & Learning reserve the right to offer the place on the course to another learner; you will not be eligible for a refund it it is outside of the terms outlined in our cancellation policy.

Fully funded learners: if you have been offered a fully funded place on a course and no longer require it, you must advise us before the course starts so that your place can be offered to someone else. We reserve the right to withdraw future offers of fully funded places if you regularly do not start or complete funded courses.

Home study: you will be required to do significant study at home between sessions to assist with your learning and progress.

Proof of identity: please bring photographic ID and your National Insurance number with you to your first session. You will also need to provide it for any external examinations you take.

Off-site activities: with some courses, there may be the opportunity for off-site enrichment activities at additional cost, for example: gallery, museum or exhibition visits. Where this is an integral part of the course, your tutor will discuss the arrangements with you during your induction.
