Festive Crafts: Make a Traditional Wreath
A workshop to learn how to create a beautiful and unique Festive hanging wreath.
What the course is about
During this course you will receive both group and individual support in order to help you learn more about making a traditional wreath. All our courses are made up of elements of speaking & listening, reading and writing, and you will work using these elements throughout the course. This workshop will inspire you to explore a number of different designs of wreath, from the traditional to the quirky, with support from its professional and experienced tutor. You will be shown how to design and then make a wreath suitable for you to display over the Festive Season. If you have any accessories that you would like to include in the design, please bring them along. The varieties of wreath include a bauble wreath, a ribbon wreath and a flower and foliage natural wreath, using base rings of many styles, according to the methods of fixing. Learning takes place in a friendly classroom setting, which is a great place for social interaction and helping you meet new people. This course offers an avenue for creative pursuits, improving your health, confidence and wellbeing. This course is subsidised by Government funding so you should aim to attend the whole course.
Pre-course information session or interview
There are no Pre-course information sessions or interviews in order to enrol on this course. Please ensure you have read and understood our STEPS guidance in order to accurately enrol upon the correct level course for you.
Assessment of progress, tests, exams
Your tutor will work with you to develop a Personal Development Plan (PDP) which will help you review your progress towards achieving your goals during the course. The workshop is structured in a way that gives you the opportunity to look at some different techniques enhanced with some tricks of the trade. Your tutor will work with you individually to decide which aspects of Festivity you want to include in your final piece. Your tutor will work with you to develop your skills and review your progress at the end of the session. Photographs will be taken to document the process and may be used for Social Media purposes. You may opt out of this if you wish, or photos can be taken of the arrangement only. There is no qualification or examination attached to this course.
Who the course is for / Previous experience, knowledge or qualifications
This is a workshop, and anyone is welcome to join and learn basic skills in the subject. This course is ideal for anyone with or without experience of flower arranging, and who would like to explore how to use their creative skills for a Festive decoration in a friendly and supportive group setting.
Materials and costs
This is a one-off workshop. Tools will be available to use during the workshop, but if you have your own and wish to use them, please bring them along (clearly labelled). This is at your own risk. If you are making a flower wreath, please bring along a selection of flowers, (fresh or silk) in colours and tones that you enjoy using and that you feel represents Christmas (no more than seven blooms/ seven flower heads.) If you have any hardy foliage, please bring some along. You will find it useful to bring a notebook and pen. If you wish to take your design home with you, please bring a suitable container. You should not wear open toed shoes in the classroom, for your own safety.You may wear an apron to protect your clothing. If you suffer from known allergies to flowers or foliage, we advise you to bring protective gloves.

If you have been offered a place but no longer require it, please advise us immediately as you may be preventing another learner from taking the place. Where learners do not attend the first session, without having given prior notice, Skills & Learning reserve the right to offer the place on the course to another learner; you will not be eligible for a refund it it is outside of the terms outlined in our cancellation policy.
Fully funded learners: if you have been offered a fully funded place on a course and no longer require it, you must advise us before the course starts so that your place can be offered to someone else. We reserve the right to withdraw future offers of fully funded places if you regularly do not start or complete funded courses.
Home study: you may be required to do some study at home between sessions to assist with your learning and progress.
Qualification Levels: there is further information about qualification levels on our website. Some courses have learners of different levels being taught in the same class with differentiated learning materials and activities appropriate to the qualification level.
Proof of identity: please bring photographic ID and your National Insurance number with you to your first session. You will also need to provide it for any external examinations you take.
Off-site activities: with some courses, there may be the opportunity for off-site enrichment activities at additional cost, for example: gallery, museum or exhibition visits. Where this is an integral part of the course, your tutor will discuss the arrangements with you during your induction.
