A four week course for those who enjoy science and want to get back into learning. This course will also help to prepare learners who are looking to undertake the one year course leading to a GCSE Biology qualification.

What the course is about

With the other learners in your class you will explore subjects such as DNA, evolution, climate change, how plants make sugar, the immune system and more.



You will carry out some practical work and will learn how to analyse data and evaluate your findings.



A variety of learning activities will be used on this course, including tutor presentation and demonstration, practical application of skills, individual and group work, discussions and Q&A.



Your tutor will also support you to improve your English and maths skills as part of the learning activities related to Biology. This will include assessing your current skill level in these important key subjects.

Pre-course information session or interview

There are no Pre-course Admission sessions or interviews in order to enrol on this course.

Assessment of progress, tests, exams

You will negotiate a Personal Learning Plan with your tutor identifying the areas you need to develop, which will be reviewed at regular intervals. There is no qualification attached to this course.

Who the course is for / Previous experience, knowledge or qualifications

We have designed this course to support you either with preparing to gain a qualification, or for further study in the field of science. Successful completion of this course will provide you with experience of the type of skills and knowledge required for further study of Biology that may be needed for job roles such as teaching and health care. 

Materials and costs

If it is not returned you will be invoiced for the full cost of a replacement.

Attendance: before enrolling you should ensure that you can attend all classes offered as far as possible.

Where learners do not attend the first session, without having given prior notice, Skills & Learning reserve the right to offer the place on the course to another learner; you will not be eligible for a refund it it is outside of the terms outlined in our cancellation policy.

Fully funded learners: if you have been offered a fully funded place on a course and no longer require it, you must advise us before the course starts so that your place can be offered to someone else. We reserve the right to withdraw future offers of fully funded places if you regularly do not start or complete funded courses.

Home study: you may be required to do some study at home between sessions to assist with your learning and progress.

Qualification Levels: there is further information about qualification levels on our website. Some courses have learners of different levels being taught in the same class with differentiated learning materials and activities appropriate to the qualification level.

Proof of identity: please bring photographic ID and your National Insurance number with you to your first session. You will also need to provide it for any external examinations you take.

Off-site activities: with some courses, there may be the opportunity for off-site enrichment activities at additional cost, for example: gallery, museum or exhibition visits. Where this is an integral part of the course, your tutor will discuss the arrangements with you during your induction.
