This course will allow you to begin and develop your drawing skills using the human figure.

What the course is about

The course is about the human figure, its use throughout the history of art and the many and various ways in which it can be interpreted through images. You will learn about:




  • Proportions

  • Perspective

  • Composition in relation to the human form

  • Experimenting with a variety of media



This course offers an avenue for creative pursuits, improving your health and well being. The friendly classroom environment is a great place for social interaction and helping you meet new people. Practice at home is advisable to enhance your learning experience.



This course is subsidised by Government funding so you should aim to attend the whole course.

Pre-course information session or interview

There are no entry requirements for this course. You may enrol online at www.webenrol.com/skillsandlearning, in person at a centre, or call 01202 123444.

Assessment of progress, tests, exams

Your tutor will work with you to develop a Personal Development Plan (PDP) which will help you review your progress towards achieving your goals during the course. 



There is no qualification or examination attached to this course. 

Who the course is for / Previous experience, knowledge or qualifications

This course is for beginners and those who would like to refresh their skills.

Materials and costs

You will need a notebook, pen and A4 folder.



You should also bring any relevant art materials that you have available to the first session, but before buying expensive materials and equipment please discuss their purchase with your tutor.



You are advised to wear old clothes or an overall to protect your clothes.

Fully funded learners: if you have been offered a fully funded place on a course and no longer require it, you must advise us before the course starts so that your place can be offered to someone else. We reserve the right to withdraw future offers of fully funded places if you regularly do not start or complete funded courses.

Home study: you will be required to do significant study at home between sessions to assist with your learning and progress.

Proof of identity: please bring photographic ID and your National Insurance number with you to your first session. You will also need to provide it for any external examinations you take.

Off-site activities: with some courses, there may be the opportunity for off-site enrichment activities at additional cost, for example: gallery, museum or exhibition visits. Where this is an integral part of the course, your tutor will discuss the arrangements with you during your induction.
