This fun and friendly course will help you to develop a personal and expressive style when painting using different mediums.

What the course is about

During this course topics will include:




  • Basic painting techniques

  • Learning how to use perspective effectively

  • How to compose a picture for the best effect

  • How to paint a variety of subjects



This course offers an avenue for creative pursuits, increasing your health and well being. The friendly classroom environment is a great place for social interaction and helping you meet new people. This course is highly subsidised by Government funding so you should aim to attend the whole course.

Pre-course information session or interview

There are no Pre-course admission sessions or interviews in order to enrol on this course. 

Assessment of progress, tests, exams

Your tutor will work with you to develop a Personal Development Plan (PDP) which will help you review your progress towards achieving your goals during the course. 



There is no qualification or examination attached to this course. 

Who the course is for / Previous experience, knowledge or qualifications

This course is for people who are experiencing low mood, anxiety and/or stress. The course offers the opportunity to learn something new, or develop existing skills, and meet new people in an informal and supportive environment. No prior subject knowledge is needed.

Materials and costs

You will need a notebook, pen and A4 folder.



You should also bring any relevant art materials that you have available to the first session, but before buying expensive materials and equipment please discuss their purchase with your tutor.



You are advised to wear old clothes or an overall to protect your clothes.

Attendance: before enrolling you should ensure that you can attend all classes offered as far as possible.

Where learners do not attend the first session, without having given prior notice, Skills & Learning reserve the right to offer the place on the course to another learner; you will not be eligible for a refund it it is outside of the terms outlined in our cancellation policy.

Fully funded learners: if you have been offered a fully funded place on a course and no longer require it, you must advise us before the course starts so that your place can be offered to someone else. We reserve the right to withdraw future offers of fully funded places if you regularly do not start or complete funded courses.

Home study: you will be required to do significant study at home between sessions to assist with your learning and progress.

Proof of identity: please bring photographic ID and your National Insurance number with you to your first session. You will also need to provide it for any external examinations you take.

Off-site activities: with some courses, there may be the opportunity for off-site enrichment activities at additional cost, for example: gallery, museum or exhibition visits. Where this is an integral part of the course, your tutor will discuss the arrangements with you during your induction.
