Make Your Own Crochet Throw
During this exciting beginner's crochet course, you will learn a new skill and create a wonderful throw to snuggle up with on the sofa.
What the course is about
In this 6-week course, those new to crochet will learn the techniques necessary to make your very own granny square throw.
During this course you will;
- Learn basic crochet stitches
- Create different crocheted granny squares
- Join squares to create a crochet throw
Please note that whilst you will learn how to make a square each week you will need to make more than 6 squares to make a full throw so depending on the size of throw you would like to create you will likely need to create squares at home. Written instructions for each square will be provided so you can hone your crochet skills between each session.
All our courses are made up of elements of speaking & listening, reading and writing, and you will work using these elements throughout the course.
Learning takes place in a friendly classroom setting, which is a great place for social interaction and helping you meet new people.
Practice at home and completion of homework is advisable to enhance your learning experience.
This course is subsidised by Government funding so you should aim to attend the whole course.

Materials and costs
You will need to bring along a notepad and pen/pencil. We would initially recommend using a 4 or 4.5mm hook and DK yarn.
We also recommend starting with an inexpensive acrylic yarn; these can often be purchased in various charity shops as well as shops like Wilko and Poundland. During sessions, our tutor will advise about other fibres. One ball of yarn in your chosen colour should be enough to start the first couple of sessions but if you wish to create a more colourful blanket feel free to bring along up to four different colour yarns - this will likely be more successful if they are the same type of yarn so I recommend sticking to the same brand Cygnet, Stylecraft Robin and Woolcraft all create budget yarns that should be around £3 a ball. Whilst you are welcome to use any colour you choose, black can sometimes be hard to see the stitches so I wouldn’t recommend black or very dark colours for your first project.
