What the course is about

Rather than jumping straight into an exam course, Get Maths Confident for Work provides a gentle re-introduction to key maths knowledge, allowing time to build your confidence and practise relevant maths skills – all in a friendly and supportive online class which runs at the same time each week.  



In just about any job, you use maths every day. But workplace numeracy is embedded in daily tasks and can feel very different from the maths we learned at school. 



This 10-week course covers work-relevant maths topics helping you to apply maths skills in everyday work scenarios so it really makes sense. 



Your tutor will: 




  • Introduce these topics in a clear way, using examples from real life and work 

  • Give lots of opportunity to practise number skills  

  • Provide regular feedback on your progress and support with any topics where you need more help 



You will also have: 




  • Access to online resources to strengthen and extend your learning 

  • Information and advice on next steps including moving on to other courses and exams

The first session will be a chat with your teacher to find out about your learning goals and check you are on the right course for your current level before we complete your enrolment. This may include an online assessment.

Assessment of progress, tests, exams

There are no exams on this course although you may be expected to complete some homework tasks and short assessments during the course.



Your teachers will review your progress with you from time to time to make sure you are staying on track for your learning goals.

Who the course is for / Previous experience, knowledge or qualifications

This course is for adults (19 to 99) who do not already have GCSE maths at Grade C (4) or above or an equivalent Level 2 maths qualification. If you are not sure whether you have a Level 2 qualification or not, please contact us.



It is for people who want to improve their maths skills in the workplace whether that is for a career change or simply to feel more confident and in control of your numeracy at work.



It is also right for you if you are considering gaining a maths qualification to improve your job prospects but want to brush up your maths before moving on to an exam course.

Materials and costs

This course is funded by the Government’s Multiply fund. Therefore, there are no fees or charges for course materials. However, you are expected to have your own pens and pencils, paper, ruler and calculator.



As this is an online course, you will need to be able to access the online sessions and materials on a computer, mobile phone or other device.

When you have successfully completed Get Maths Confident for Work, you can apply for a Level 2 Functional Skills maths course. Up to date English and maths Functional Skills and Essential Digital Skills qualifications can help you progress at work or into further or higher education. Attendance: before enrolling you should ensure that you can attend all classes offered as far as possible.

Places on courses: many of our courses are in high demand. If you have been offered a place but no longer require it, please advise us immediately as you may be preventing another learner from taking the place. Where learners do not attend the first session, without having given prior notice, Skills & Learning reserve the right to offer the place on the course to another learner; you will not be eligible for a refund it it is outside of the terms outlined in our cancellation policy.

Fully funded learners: if you have been offered a fully funded place on a course and no longer require it, you must advise us before the course starts so that your place can be offered to someone else. We reserve the right to withdraw future offers of fully funded places if you regularly do not start or complete funded courses.

Home study: you will be required to do significant study at home between sessions to assist with your learning and progress.

Proof of identity: please bring photographic ID and your National Insurance number with you to your first session. You will also need to provide it for any external examinations you take.

Off-site activities: with some courses, there may be the opportunity for off-site enrichment activities at additional cost, for example: gallery, museum or exhibition visits. Where this is an integral part of the course, your tutor will discuss the arrangements with you during your induction.
