Learn how to deal with nerves when presenting information in front of others or as part of an interview. Learn how to present information that will help increase your self-confidence and improve the impression you make on others.

What the course is about

This is a three week course.

You will work individually and in groups in learning how you can develop important employability skills in the workplace.

The purpose of this course is to help you gain greater confidence in your ability and capability to present information in public or as part of an interview.

The Learning outcomes of this course will help you understand the key communication factors that impact on presenting information and help you to:

  • Overcome nerves
  • Overcome habits and distractions
  • Use natural gestures
  • Know your audience
  • Know how to structure the information
  • Know what key messages to give to keep your audience engaged
  • Use visual aids
  • Use notes
  • Deal with interruptions
  • Deal with questions

Giving the presentation:

  • In week 3 you will have the opportunity to deliver a 5 minute presentation to the Group to enable you practice your presentation skills.
  • Prior to this you will be encouraged to practice and rehearse away from the classroom setting.
  • You will be choose from a range of subjects and topics for your presentation.
  • You will have the choice to use visual aids.
  • At the end of your presentation you will hold a question and answer session by responding to a maximum of 3 questions.
  • Your presentation will be peer assessed by the Group using a prepared questionnaire with only constructive feedback to be given to further support your development.
  • Arrangements can be made for presentations to be recorded on your own mobile devices, should you wish, for the purpose of ongoing reflection, practice and improvement.
  • The course is classroom based.

    The skills you gain on this course will help increase your employability skills and opportunities to return to work.

    Learning takes place in a friendly classroom setting, which is a great place for social interaction, developing teamwork skills, improving self-confidence and communication skills.

Pre-course information session or interview

There are no pre-course admission sessions or interviews in order to enrol on this course.

To ensure there are no barriers to achievement please advise us if you have particular requirements to help you complete the course.

This course is subsidised by Government funding so you are expected to attend and commit to the requirements for completing the whole course.

Assessment of progress, tests, exams

For the duration of the course you will be expected to set and achieve own personal development goals.

Who the course is for / Previous experience, knowledge or qualifications

No prior learning or experience is required.

Materials and costs

There are no additional costs to this course however you should provide your own note taking equipment and pen.

Where learners do not attend the first session, without having given prior notice, Skills & Learning reserve the right to offer the place on the course to another learner and you will not be eligible to a refund it its outside of the terms outlined in our cancellation policy.

Fully funded learners: if you have been offered a fully funded place on a course and no longer require it, you must advise us before the course starts so that your place can be offered to someone else. We reserve the right to withdraw future offers of fully funded places if you regularly do not start or complete funded courses.

Home study: you may be required to do some study at home between sessions to assist with your learning and progress.

Qualification Levels: there is further information about qualification levels on our website. Some courses will have learners of different levels being taught in the same class with differentiated learning materials and activities appropriate to the qualification level.

Proof of identity: please bring photographic ID and your National Insurance number with you to your first session. You will also need to provide it for any external examinations you take.

Off-site activities: with some courses, there may be the opportunity for off-site enrichment activities at additional cost, for example: gallery, museum or exhibition visits. Where this is an integral part of the course, your tutor will discuss the arrangements with you during your induction.
