Silver Clay Jewellery: Make a Pair of Earrings or Pendant

During this course you will receive both group and individual support in experimenting with PMC, silver clay, as a medium from which to make a piece of unique and delightful jewellery.



Art Clay Silver is a precious metal clay which looks and feels like ordinary sculpting or porcelain clay, with fine particles of pure silver mixed with a non-toxic organic binder. When fired the binder burns out leaving a fine silver piece, which can be hallmarked as fine silver.



Using pre-formed moulds, or creating your own textures, directly onto the silver clay, using cutters, you will learn how to create your own design. 

Please bear in mind for safety reasons, please do not wear long draped sleeves, or anything with a bow at the neck and your hair must be tied up if is long. All of this to maintain safety when firing and sintering the clay. No open toed shoes. 

All our courses are made up of elements of speaking & listening, reading and writing, and you will work using these elements throughout the course.



Some of the skills you gain on this course could help increase your opportunities for employment or working within the community. Learning takes place in a friendly classroom setting, which is a great place for social interaction and helping you meet new people.



This course is subsidised by Government funding so you should aim to attend the whole course. 

There are no Pre-course information sessions or interviews in order to enrol on this course.

You will work with your tutor to assess your starting point and examine your progress at intervals throughout the day. Do not be afraid to ask for help, there is no such thing as a silly question and when using an expensive medium, it is better to be sure than mess up. Although there is a way back from almost any mistake! 

You will be encouraged to review your achievement and the impact your new skills will have on your life in the future. 

There is no qualification or examination attached to this course. 

This course is suitable for beginners and those more experienced, as this can be thought of as a project that will be started and finished in one day. No prior knowledge is necessary. 

This course is for anyone who wishes to spend a pleasant day with likeminded people, creating something beautiful. The sheer delight of seeing the silver clay go from mucky clay to shiny silver is like a mini miracle every time and designing your own jewellery is an absorbing and fun pastime. 

All materials and equipment will be provided for you to make and take home a pendant with a stone setting.

If you have been offered a place but no longer require it, please advise us immediately as you may be preventing another learner from taking the place. Fully funded learners: if you have been offered a fully funded place on a course and no longer require it, you must advise us before the course starts so that your place can be offered to someone else. Home study: you will be required to do significant study at home between sessions to assist with your learning and progress.

Proof of identity: please bring photographic ID and your National Insurance number with you to your first session. You will also need to provide it for any external examinations you take.

Off-site activities: with some courses, there may be the opportunity for off-site enrichment activities at additional cost, for example: gallery, museum or exhibition visits. Where this is an integral part of the course, your tutor will discuss the arrangements with you during your induction.
