An interesting and fun Intermediate level course, for those wishing to develop their language skills beyond simple phrases, conversations, and writing, at beginner level.

What the course is about

During this course you will receive both group and individual support in order to help you learn more about the Spanish language and culture including complex sentence structures, vocabulary, verbs, tenses, and grammar, at a higher level than the beginner’s courses at Step 1, 2 and 3. 



Topics that may be covered include: 




  • Descriptions (use of the imperfect tense)  

  • Spanish use around the world including key regional differences 

  • Current affairs including the use of print and social media  

  • Discussing film, television and cultural events in the formal and informal 



All our courses are made up of elements of speaking & listening, reading and writing, and you will work on these elements throughout the course. 



Some of the skills you gain on this course could help increase your opportunities for employment or working within the community.  Learning takes place in a friendly classroom setting, which is a great place for social interaction and helping you meet new people. 



Practice at home and completion of homework is advisable to enhance your learning experience. 



This course is subsidised by Government funding so you should aim to attend the whole course.

Assessment of progress, tests, exams

Your tutor will work with you to develop a Personal Development Plan (PDP) which will help you review your progress towards achieving your goals during the course.



There is no qualification or examination attached to this course.

Who the course is for / Previous experience, knowledge or qualifications

This is an Intermediate Step 1 course, and you will be expected to have a solid basic level of knowledge and skills in the subject and feel confident in completing multi-step tasks and activities, taking part in discussions and working independently.

Materials and costs

You will need a notebook, pen and A4 folder. During the first session your tutor may discuss additional materials to bring if possible.

Home study: you will be required to do significant study at home between sessions to assist with your learning and progress.

Proof of identity: please bring photographic ID and your National Insurance number with you to your first session. You will also need to provide it for any external examinations you take.

Off-site activities: with some courses, there may be the opportunity for off-site enrichment activities at additional cost, for example: gallery, museum or exhibition visits. Where this is an integral part of the course, your tutor will discuss the arrangements with you during your induction.
