The purpose of this admission session is to provide you with:

  • A taste of Massage through practical activities. This will also provide tutors with an idea of your current level of skills and enable them to assess your suitability for the course

  • Details of work placement opportunities
  • Information as to the pre-requisite skills or qualifications needed prior to enrolling
  • li>Information as to the commitment and home study requirements
  • A Skills Check for English, maths and ICT as appropriate (if you have not already completed this)
  • Details of learning support or financial support that may be available to you
  • An opportunity for you to ask questions about the programme
  • Advice on what you may be able to do after the course and how to get the necessary qualifications to work in the Sports or Complementary Therapy industry

You should arrive at the start time and expect to stay for the full scheduled duration of this session.


There will be an opportunity for a break. You are welcome to bring your own snack and cold drinks.

Assessment of progress, tests, exams

There will be an assessment of your English, maths or ICT skills, so that we can gain an indication of your current level of skills to support you in these areas during your course.

Who the course is for / Previous experience, knowledge or qualifications

This admission session is for new learners who wish to join a Sports Massage course.

If you have any certificates for qualifications in this subject area, or in English or maths, please bring them with you to the Admission Session.

Materials and costs

All materials will be provided, although you may wish to bring a pen and paper with you for making your own notes.

If the course is suitable for you, you will be enrolled onto your chosen course, subject to places being available. We will contact you within 10 working days to confirm your enrolment. If we feel that your chosen course is not suitable, we will contact you to discuss further and to signpost you to alternative courses that you may be interested in, either with Skills&Learning or one of our partner organisations.

Attendance: before enrolling you should ensure that you can attend all classes offered as far as possible

Places on courses: some of our courses will be in high demand and if you have been offered a place but no longer require it, please advise us immediately as you may be preventing another learner from the taking the place. Where learners do not attend the first session, without having given prior notice, Skills & Learning reserve the right to offer the place on the course to another learner and you will not be eligible to a refund it its outside of the terms outlined in our cancellation policy.

Fully funded learners: if you have been offered a fully funded place on a course and no longer require it, you must advise us before the course starts so that your place can be offered to someone else. We reserve the right to withdraw future offers of fully funded places if you regularly do not start or complete funded courses.

Home study: you may be required to do some study at home between sessions to assist with your learning and progress.

Qualification Levels: there is further information about qualification levels on our website. Some courses will have learners of different levels being taught in the same class with differentiated learning materials and activities appropriate to the qualification level.

Proof of identity: please bring photographic ID and your National Insurance number with you to your first session. You will also need to provide it for any external examinations you take.

Off-site activities: with some courses, there may be the opportunity for off-site enrichment activities at additional cost, for example: gallery, museum or exhibition visits. Where this is an integral part of the course, your tutor will discuss the arrangements with you during your induction.
