We are delighted to have partnered with National Numeracy to support our work enabling people to improve their numeracy for work and everyday life.
Did you know that 49% of UK adults have the numeracy skills of a primary school child? Many people are held back in applying for jobs, progressing at work or accessing further education and training because of low numeracy skills and confidence. Outside of work a lack of maths skills can lead to issues with managing money or supporting your children with their school homework.
National Numeracy is committed to helping people get on better with numbers enabling them to thrive in life, and that’s why we have partnered with them to offer the Numeracy Champions scheme across Dorset.
What is a Numeracy Champion?
Anyone with an interest in supporting others to feel more confident with numbers can train to become a Numeracy Champion – you just need to already have a group of adults to support whether that’s colleagues, customers or clients you engage with in the workplace or the community.
Numeracy Champions don’t teach maths. Instead they offer support to others to overcome barriers and anxieties about numbers and data. Champions may run ‘Time to Talk Numbers’ or ‘Number Natter’ conversations, direct people to the National Numeracy Challenge website and app or to local learning opportunities.

How do I Sign Up?
Becoming a Numeracy Champion is simple. You just need to complete the CPD-accredited training run by National Numeracy – 2 x 2 hour sessions online. This will prepare you for running your own ‘Number Natters’ and give you access to all the resources that National Numeracy provides.
