This course will help you improve your English so you can communicate confidently in a wide range of situations.



You will learn how to express your ideas clearly, understand different types of information, and take part in conversations, discussions, and everyday tasks.



What You Will Learn



Writing

You will learn how to:




  • Plan and organise your writing

  • Write clearly for different purposes and audiences

  • Use simple, compound, and complex sentences

  • Use accurate spelling, punctuation and grammar

  • Present information in a clear and logical way



Reading

You will learn how to:




  • Read and understand a variety of texts

  • Find key information using skimming and scanning

  • Understand meaning, purpose and main ideas

  • Use reference materials to understand new vocabulary



Speaking and Listening

You will develop skills to:




  • Understand spoken information in different situations

  • Communicate clearly and effectively

  • Share ideas, opinions and information

  • Take part in discussions and respond to others

  • Use appropriate language for different situations

Pre-course information session or interview

Before starting the course, you will need to attend an admissions session to complete paperwork and take part in an initial assessment.

Assessment of progress, tests, exams

You will complete an exam for each part of the course:




  • Reading

  • Writing

  • Speaking and Listening



These exams will take place at the end of each term, and your teacher will support you with practice and feedback to help you succeed.

Who the course is for / Previous experience, knowledge or qualifications

To join this course, you should:



Have completed a qualification at Entry Level 3 (E3/B1-) or have equivalent skills



It is also helpful if you:




  • Have a good understanding of English

  • Are confident using English in everyday situations

  • Are willing to take part and develop your skills

  • Can attend lessons regularly



You will attend an admissions session and complete an initial assessment to ensure this course is right for you

Proof of identity: please bring photographic ID and your National Insurance number with you to your first session. You will also need to provide it for any external examinations you take.

Off-site activities: with some courses, there may be the opportunity for off-site enrichment activities at additional cost, for example: gallery, museum or exhibition visits. Where this is an integral part of the course, your tutor will discuss the arrangements with you during your induction.

Fees and concessions

The total charge for this course is £462. Concessions FREE.

You could study this course for free if any of the following apply:

  • You receive Job Seekers Allowance (including National Insurance credits only), Employment and Support Allowance
  • You receive Universal Credit or other state benefits not included previously and your take home pay (disregarding Universal Credit and other benefits) is less than £892 a month (if you are a sole adult in your benefit claims) or £1,437 a month (if you have a joint benefit claim with your partner).
  • You are not in receipt of benefits, are unemployed, want to be employed and the course is directly relevant to your employment prospects.
  • If your income is below £25,000 p.a (gross including benefits)

If you’re not eligible, you can pay via an Instalment Plan or by paying the full course fee upfront.
