Multiplying the festive fun - while keeping to a budget

Clients of Seetec Pluss in Bournemouth are enjoying a sweet time learning how to celebrate for less with our Multiply tutor Jo.

The group spent the second week of their Holiday Money Saving course making inexpensive festive gifts of peppermint creams.

When the icing sugar dust had settled the group had made around 25 sweets each, which in turn made five thoughtful gifts for friends, for just 39 pence each!

Group member Sophie said: “I love celebrating Christmas, and my favourite part is gifting presents to people I love, but affording this is getting harder and harder.

Holiday Money Saving has been really helpful. I enjoyed weighing out the ingredients and making the sweets using festive cookie cutters. It’s amazing to think we have made so many for such a small cost.”

She added: “The Multiply course is really good because it gives you so many tips on how to make the most of your money, which is especially important around expensive times like Christmas.”

Group member Richard agreed: “I didn’t think I would be very good at making the sweets, but I’ve surprised myself and they taste good!

“I have found the course fun and helpful. Jo has also given us advice on ways we can cut down on the costs of our food and many other ways to give inexpensive gifts, such as putting a limit of £5 on presents and arranging to do something different with friends and family every month next year, such as a picnic one month, and a walk the next, for example. We also discussed how important it is to be able to celebrate without getting into debt.”
