What the course is about
This course provides an introduction to basic art and craft techniques, including drawing and painting. You will explore various mediums and learn foundational skills to express your creativity. The course aims to develop an understanding of art principles and develop your inner creativity and develop your confidence.

Assessment of progress, tests, exams
You will be working towards a Gateway Entry Level Qualification, upon successful completion you will get a certificate that showcases your achievement.
Who the course is for / Previous experience, knowledge or qualifications
This is a beginner's course and you may have no experience in the subject or very basic knowledge in the subject.
Materials and costs
Please have for your first session
• A4 art sketchbook (+150gsm)
• A range of drawing pencils
• A range of pens including a fine liner
• Eraser and sharpener.
Your tutor will advise you about other materials in the first week and as the course progresses.

Where learners do not attend the first session, without having given prior notice, Skills & Learning reserve the right to offer the place on the course to another learner; you will not be eligible for a refund it it is outside of the terms outlined in our cancellation policy.
Fully funded learners: if you have been offered a fully funded place on a course and no longer require it, you must advise us before the course starts so that your place can be offered to someone else. We reserve the right to withdraw future offers of fully funded places if you regularly do not start or complete funded courses.
Home study: you will be required to do significant study at home between sessions to assist with your learning and progress.

Proof of identity: please bring photographic ID and your National Insurance number with you to your first session. You will also need to provide it for any external examinations you take.
Off-site activities: with some courses, there may be the opportunity for off-site enrichment activities at additional cost, for example: gallery, museum or exhibition visits. Where this is an integral part of the course, your tutor will discuss the arrangements with you during your induction.

The total charge for this course is £123. Concessions FREE.
You could study this course for free if any of the following apply:
- You receive Job Seekers Allowance (including National Insurance credits only), Employment and Support Allowance
- You receive Universal Credit or other state benefits not included previously and your take home pay (disregarding Universal Credit and other benefits) is less than £892 a month (if you are a sole adult in your benefit claims) or £1,437 a month (if you have a joint benefit claim with your partner).
- You are not in receipt of benefits, are unemployed, want to be employed and the course is directly relevant to your employment prospects.
- If your income is below £25,000 p.a (gross including benefits)
If you’re not eligible, you can pay via an Instalment Plan or by paying the full course fee upfront.
