This course helps you build confidence in using basic English skills for everyday reading, writing, speaking, and listening.

What the course is about

This course is designed to help you improve your everyday English skills so you can feel more confident in real-life situations.

You will learn how to:




  • Read simple texts and understand important information

  • Write short sentences and messages clearly

  • Speak and listen in conversations, such as asking questions or sharing information



Throughout the course, you will take part in practical activities that help you use English in everyday situations, such as talking to people, reading signs, or writing notes.

This course will help you become more independent, build your confidence, and prepare you to move on to the next level.

Who the course is for / Previous experience, knowledge or qualifications

You do not need any formal qualifications to join this course.

However, it is helpful if you:




  • Have a basic understanding of English (for example, simple words or phrases)

  • Are willing to learn and take part in activities

  • Want to improve your reading, writing, speaking and listening skills

  • Can attend lessons regularly



Before starting the course, you will complete an initial assessment.

Fully funded learners: if you have been offered a fully funded place on a course and no longer require it, you must advise us before the course starts so that your place can be offered to someone else. We reserve the right to withdraw future offers of fully funded places if you regularly do not start or complete funded courses.

Home study: you will be required to do significant study at home between sessions to assist with your learning and progress.

Proof of identity: please bring photographic ID and your National Insurance number with you to your first session. You will also need to provide it for any external examinations you take.

Off-site activities: with some courses, there may be the opportunity for off-site enrichment activities at additional cost, for example: gallery, museum or exhibition visits. Where this is an integral part of the course, your tutor will discuss the arrangements with you during your induction.

Fees and concessions

The total charge for this course is £462. Concessions FREE.

You could study this course for free if any of the following apply:

  • You receive Job Seekers Allowance (including National Insurance credits only), Employment and Support Allowance
  • You receive Universal Credit or other state benefits not included previously and your take home pay (disregarding Universal Credit and other benefits) is less than £892 a month (if you are a sole adult in your benefit claims) or £1,437 a month (if you have a joint benefit claim with your partner).
  • You are not in receipt of benefits, are unemployed, want to be employed and the course is directly relevant to your employment prospects.
  • If your income is below £25,000 p.a (gross including benefits)

If you’re not eligible, you can pay via an Instalment Plan or by paying the full course fee upfront.
