What the course is about

The main aim of the VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Specialist Techniques is to enable learners to gain the necessary practical skills and knowledge to provide beauty treatments to the general public and to gain employment in the beauty industry. With the other learners in your class, you will gain the practical and theoretical skills required to provide professional beauty treatments in waxing, manicure and pedicure, facial skincare, eye treatments and make-up. You will also gain the necessary skills in client care and communication, and health and safety. There are nine mandatory units to complete and a minimum of four optional units.

Therapists gaining a Beauty Diploma will benefit from being confident in performing high quality treatments. A Beauty Diploma will also be needed for insurance purposes to cover all treatments if self employment is your chosen career path. A full qualification, such as the Level 2 Beauty Diploma, will be needed to gain employment in a salon.

A variety of learning activities will be used on this course, including tutor presentation and demonstration, practical application of skills, individual and group work, discussions, Q&A, internet research, individual research and project work. Where relevant, your learning will enable you to develop skills and knowledge required for work. There may be vocational specialist guest speakers, or employers, invited to share their skills and experience.

Regular home study will be necessary to successfully complete this course. You will be supported to develop good study skills. You will initially develop practical skills by working on other learners in your class until you have developed enough skill to offer treatments to clients. There may be the opportunity to undertake a work placement during your course. Full details will be shared at induction. Your tutor will also support you to improve your English and maths skills alongside your learning of your vocational subject. If you have declared at enrolment that you are unemployed, you may be invited to meet with an Information, Advice and Guidance Officer or employability member of staff, to identify other learning opportunities that will support you to secure employment or improve your employment prospects. We highly recommend that you engage fully in any other learning opportunities that we help you identify.
